We all have personal improvement goals that we think and dream about. And it's healthy to have goals and a positive vision of the future, but behavior change is tough. It's especially tough if we rely on motivation and willpower to help us reach our goals, but I have an idea for you to try that does not require motivation or willpower. All it requires is for you to show up, and keep showing up.
Just for fun, pick one thing you would like to improve. We'll call this a "practice goal."
Ideas: read more, start a journal, get in shape, get up earlier, get out of debt, whatever.
Okay, so you have a goal. Now you need to make a specific action plan ahead of time to help you easily start. Take a minute to think about your practice goal and try this out.
1. Be Intentional: Pick a day, time, and place to start your action.
Tonight before bed, I will read 1 page of a book.
2. Design your environment for success by linking the action to something you already do.
I'll lay the book on my pillow or on my nightstand where I'll see it.
3. Make an "If...Then" statement. Keep it super simple to be successful.
If I see my book on my pillow, then I will read 1 page (or even just a paragraph).
4. Make your goal your identity.
I'm the kind of person who reads every night.
Got a goal? Give it a try.
Show up, and keep showing up. SUAKSU!
Enjoy the day!
